Master Parking & Pedestrian Plan

In 2012, the City of Pickens hired Goodwyn, Mills, Caywood (GMC) to lead a community discussion on parking and pedestrian safety in the core commercial area of downtown Pickens and to develop a Master Parking & Pedestrian Safety Plan.  Prior to developing the Master Parking & Pedestrian Safety Plan, some areas of real or perceived concerns among community members included lack of parking, unsafe street crossing design, the rate of speed of vehicles on Main Street, and the difficulty of the 178 and Main Street intersection.

The Master Parking & Pedestrian Safety Plan is based upon implementation of the Pickens Community Master Charrette Report produced by the Main Street South Carolina (MSSC) Team in July of 2012.  MSSC assembled a team in architecture, planning, historic preservation, economic development and community branding that adheres to the Main Street Four-Point Approach to downtown revitalization.  To begin implementation of recommendations related to the design of downtown, the Master Parking & Pedestrian Safety Plan was developed–we invite you to click on the link below and see what is planned for our downtown area.
