Public Works
The City of Pickens Public Works Department is made up of three separate divisions; Streets & Sanitation, Water & Sewer Maintenance, and Storm Water.
The Street & Sanitation division maintains all City streets and right of ways as well as solid waste disposal. Household garbage, brush, construction and demolition debris, recyclables, and leaves are collected at your home or business and disposed of at the Pickens County Landfill.
The Water & Sewer Maintenance division is responsible for delivering potable water from the City's Water Treatment Plant to your tap and wastewater from your home or business to the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant. After water is treated at the City's Water Treatment Plant it enters the distribution system. The distribution system is made up of a network of water mains, pumps and water tanks designed to deliver consistent water pressure to your home. Wastewater leaves your home and enters an additional network of sewer lines and pumps. Common activities for the Water and Sewer Maintenance crew are repairing broke water or sewer lines, maintaining water and sewer right of ways, and maintaining water and sewer pumps.
The City of Pickens is part of the Pickens County Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). Storm Water is surface water runoff from impervious surfaces such as asphalt of concrete. The City of Pickens is responsible for satisfying multiple requirements issued by the EPA.
